Sport Your Stripes
Ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to live in a city big enough that I would never need a car. Flash forward many years later, and the first thing I did after graduating college and before moving to a new big city was sell my car and I haven't looked back since. While I love the freedom of not having one, sometimes getting around town without it can be a hassle. On weekends when I do most of my "running around town," my outfits usually reflect this lifestyle. On days when I know I'll be out all day, I dress based on functionality and choose pieces that are able to withstand public transit and/or able to walk multiple city blocks. In my city living experience these pieces tend to be durable cottons, lighter-weight fabrics, and if you are like me and can't part with your heels for even daytime errands, opt for a wedge.

Navy & White: The Summer Uniform
Happy Memorial Day, all! I hope everyone had a great weekend and start to their summer. This weekend [and all summer long] I rocked my "summer uniform" aka navy and white everything. I love this color combo, it's the perfect chic summer pairing. From desk to date night or beach to BBQ, I can't get enough navy and white into my summer wardrobe. What's everyone else wearing this summer? Anyone else have a "summer uniform?"
Happy Summer!

Piped Stripes
Happy Thursday, all! Hope everyone has been having a great summer so far. Hard to believe it's almost over! Most of my summer weekends have been spent traveling to bachelorette parties, weddings and baby showers. So, with most my weekends spent traveling from event to event, my go-to weekend wear for summer has been ready-to-wear, easy cotton dresses. The kind of dress that I know no matter how long I have to be in it, I'll be comfortable the entire time. The photos above are from a 3-event day where I was in the dress for almost 14 hours - marathon!

LWDs
Crucial for your closet this summer is the LWD (little white dress). While I personally love a great LBD (little black dress), white dresses have become not only ubiquitous with summer, but a must. Above are some of may favorite silhouettes for the summer.
The Contemporary - I love the asymmetrical hem line of this dress. The draping and jersey fabric make it a super chic look for a summer date night.
The Summer Frock - This piece can go on repeat to every barbecue, garden party, graduation party etc. The eyelet cotton makes this a super easy-to-wear piece that can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
The Ivory Stunner - White doesn't always have to be so white. I love the classic color and shape of this dress. Paired with the right jewelry, this dress is incredibly elegant.
The Body Con - For those daring enough to wear a white, body-hugging dress. The modest neck and hemline make this dress appropriate for all occasions.
The Ballerina - Who doesn't love living out a childhood fantasy with this dress? I love the full skirt which can really accentuate a woman's waist line in an ultra-flattering way.
The Modern Marilyn - Beware of all upward gusts. This dress is Marilyn Monroe circa 2014. The deep V and cinched waist create the hourglass shape Marilyn was known for.

Friday Five: 06.06.14
Happy Friday, all! One of my absolute favorite parts of summer is having the sun on my face and a good book (and a beverage) in hand. This week's Friday Five is dedicated to some of my favorite summer reads.
1. The emotional love story: Me Before You, Jo Jo Moyes. If you are looking for a summer romance and/or in need of a good cry, this one is for you. This emotional story is a quick page turner, perfect for any beach vacation.
2. Dark Humor: This is Where I Leave You, Jonathan Tropper. If you haven't already read this book, I suggest picking it up before it becomes the end of summer block buster movie ,featuring Tina Fey and Jason Bateman. I rarely get excited about seeing a movie after reading the book, but after seeing the cast I think this will be a good one.
3. A Classic: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith. A true coming of age story that candidly depicts the universal struggles of a young girl about to enter adulthood.
4. Non-Fiction: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Rebecca Skloot. For those looking for a non-fiction read, I suggest the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This book is certain to make you think and will definitely teach you something about yourself by reading it. The story of Henrietta is one of science, ethics and a woman who has given so much of herself to modern medicine.
5. Side-Splitting Comedy: Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris. Stuck with family on a summer vacation and need a good laugh? Pick this up immediately. David Sedaris hilariously tells his life story in a series of short essays about his family that will undoubtedly make you laugh out loud.
Have any others to add to the list? Mention them in the comments!
